Using the rich text function to create varied and interesting formats for your event descriptions.
1: What is the Event description for?
The description will sit at the top of the event page just under the event title. As such it is one of the first things your learners will see: so this is a useful feature to convey a key message about the event and also to format it in a way that matches your approach/the style of event.
The description is free text and can be used in any way you feel benefits the event. It is often used to detail the purpose of the learning, the style and nature of the session and how this aligns with their role and the business objectives.
Because this description will be unique to you, your client and the event you have the functionality to create varied and interesting formatting, including the ability to add images. In many ways this is like the front cover of a book.
2: Where do I add the event description?
When you create the event for the first time you will have the "Event description" as the last box on this screen:
You will need to input some text/formatting before you can save the event. However you can return to this and "Edit" the event at any point (See adding images below). So you do not need to format this fully before you add the objectives or resources. You can edit at any time.
3: Formatting the text:
Your event description can be formatted simply as text describing the event as you choose. If you would like to format with added variety you can use:
- Paragraph: to create headlines and different size fonts
- Bold, itallic and underline to highlight certain words
- Different coloured fonts and background colours for your text
- Bullet points or numbering to list key information
- Indents to position the text to the centre for example
Here is an example:
4: Adding images to your event description:
To add an image to your event description click on the insert image button:
This will give you the following pop-up:
Any image you add to the event description needs to already exist online as you will add the image's link address (e.g. something like https://acme.com/images/myimage.jpg
) to the "Source" box:
If the image is already hosted online simply copy and paste in the image link address in to the "Source" box and click on "Save".
If the image is not online you can upload it as a resource to your event and copy the URL from the resources section on your event. Simply complete the following steps:
- Upload the image to the event resources for this event
- Right click on the file in the event resources and copy the link address
- Paste this link in to the "source" box as per image above
- Click "Save".
Once the image is in the event description you can re-size by highlighting it and dragging in from any of the corners. Alternatively you can right-click on the image, select 'Image' from the pop-up menu and then enter the desired height and width into the dialog.
Tip:- If you want your image to fill the width of the leraner's event page enter a width of 1200.
5: Editing the event description:
You can edit the text format and image at any time. Simply open the event page and click on "Edit event" in the top right corner.
